What a night! Enjoy the recap of the 10th Annual Celebration of Black Women in Hollywood. I like to bring my readers inside of all the amazingness, positivity and light that shines amongst the best who share our world with hopes of bringing forth inspiration, knowledge and great entertainment. I must say, after a night surrounded by so much black beauty, I am still on such an emotional high myself. There was so much beautiful magic in one room and it was truly an honor to experience this first hand, while having the opportunity to know, work with and be among such powerful black women in Hollywood. In previous years, Essence presented a luncheon for the occasion; but this year's switch up was an evening gala that was hosted with true excellence. The gala took place at the beautiful Beverly Hills Wilshire Hotel as many of Hollywood's Finest joined together with such grace, class and unique style. Honorees for the evening were Issa Rae (TV Show: Insecure), Janelle Monae (Movie: Hidden Figures), Aja Naomi King (TV Show: How To Get Away With Murder) and Yara Shahidi (TV Show: Blackish). 4 dynamic women who are taking the entertainment industry by storm. Many have paved the way for these powerful young black women as they're inspiring so many around the world while too opening doors for future young black leaders in entertainment.
Upon arrival, immediately after checking in I was asked as a Beauty Expert to also hit the red carpet along side of these amazing ladies while sharing my expertise on "Black Beauty"; which I believe truly brings out strong confidence both inside & out for every women. It helps to exude one's natural talent & style which cultivates with beautiful makeup & great fashion. Black Beauty not only represents, embraces & enhances a women's God-given talent, but her power, her strength and her thriving personality. Black Beauty is not only in the hairstyle, makeup and fashion. It first starts with the true essence of a women's inner being; who she is and what she believes in; which is why makeup should never appear ashy or overpowering. Often less is more; but balance and knowledge are key factors. It all works together magically; both outward and inward. Ooops! I just had to slip in a beauty tip (totally unintentionally) but anyone who knows me and my brand, knows that as an expert, I can speak the language of beauty in my sleep. It is who I am and what I've been so blessed to share around the world for many years. Ok, back to the night... After hitting the red carpet and chatting it up with my girl Tracey Edmonds of EXTRA, followed by Mrs. Tina Knowles-Lawson, Letoya Luckett, Loni Love, Danielle Brooks, Tracee Ellis Ross and several other amazing ladies, we all then proceeded into the Beverly Hills Ballroom where unparalleled empowerment came forth by many more dynamic female leaders. I must again say "Thank You" to everyone at Essence for making this happen! This was truly a magical night of "All Things Beauty".
