Girl Power... Women In Entertainment Summit

Women in Entertainment launched in 2015 to bring together forward-thinkers from all areas of the entertainment industry to explore a variety of topics that greatly impact women: from human rights and women’s leadership, to storytelling across platforms and empowering the next generation of women to emerge as creative powerhouses. With great excitement, I was honored to attend the 3rd annual Women in Entertainment Summit which took place on Thursday, November 2, 2017, at the Skirball Center in Los Angeles, CA. My followers on Instagram enjoyed the Live Videos & Instagram Stories throughout the event and during the fantastic lunch as women of many different cultures, experiences & backgrounds came together with one very outstanding thing in common, we all work in some area of the entertainment industry. Some in film as actors, cinematographers, writers, directors, sports and much, much more. This was a pretty amazing day full of empowerment & life-changing knowledge shared by a series of keynote speakers, panelists and compelling chats with some of the industry’s most successful and progressive minds.

During the event, I had the wonderful pleasure of catching up & connecting with some of the most amazing women in Hollywood, from President & COO of the LA Sparks "Christine Simmons", President of SAG Aftra "Gabrielle Carteris", Olympic Gold Medalist "Jordyn Wieber" and Director/Writer/Primetime Emmy Nominee "Dee Rees", all shown in images below; to name & share a few; although there were many, many amazing women present for this great occasion and the knowledge that came forth was remarkable. As I reviewed my notes following the event, I'd like to share with you a few great words shared by "Christine Simmons"; President of the LA Sparks who spoke on the panel titled "Strong Is Beautiful". Christine shared "We as women have to constantly reassure ourselves. We must take that next step to help build our confidence. Take each day step by step in order to get closer to where you want to be". As each panelist shared their extensive knowledge, personal experiences and wisdom, I watched the audience sit on the edge of their seats. There was never a dull moment. The panelists were dynamic and many of the experiences shared were indeed life-changing. Many times women in entertainment too feel alone or feel as if no one could ever relate to their ups & downs. I'm certain that we all learned that many of our own personal & professional experiences are quite relatable. I can truly say, the WIE Summit was not only inspiring & empowering, it gave many attendees the knowledge, encouragement & drive to continue utilizing their gifts while thriving to become better in effort to accomplish our goals; although sometimes it may truly seem impossible within the challenging world of working in entertainment. I often share with my students & colleagues, it is very important to surround yourself with like minded individuals; other creatives who too make & have made great sacrifices to utilize his or her gifts to truly make a difference. Thank you WIE for providing such a dynamic platform.
